Adding shoppable video to your Shopify store before Black Friday 2026

Black Friday 2026 is November 27 and Cyber Monday is November 30. Shopify says its merchants sold $14.6 billion over the 2025 BFCM weekend, up 27% on 2024, with sales peaking at $5.1 million a minute at 12:01pm EST on Black Friday.

Many BFCM checklists recommend a code freeze before that weekend. Nostra's site speed checklist, for example, says no theme edits, no new apps and no experimental scripts from roughly November 1 through Cyber Monday. If you follow a rule like that, any video you want on your store for Black Friday has to be installed and tested in October.

This post splits the work by that line. Some of it touches your theme and belongs before the freeze. Some of it can wait.

Theme changes go before the freeze

Adding a video widget means adding an app block to a theme template in the theme editor. That is a theme edit, so it goes first.

Put the block on the templates you expect Black Friday traffic to land on, then check them on a phone. A carousel that looks fine on a laptop can push the Add to cart button below the fold on a small screen.

Two checks belong in the same week.

Find out what your video app bills on. Many apps charge by views or impressions, and Black Friday week is when that meter runs fastest. We worked through the arithmetic in an earlier post. It checks what happens in a month at double your usual views, and a Black Friday week can push a store past that.

If you are trying Shopify Canvas, the AI store builder Shopify launched on October 1, try it on a copy of your theme and leave your live theme alone. As of October 14, 2026, Shopify's Help Center says you can't add or configure app blocks or app embeds in Canvas, a gap TechCrunch reported at launch. The same page says a theme you edit in Canvas can only be edited in Canvas from then on, so you can't take it back to the theme editor to place a video widget, and it no longer receives theme updates. When you duplicate a theme in Canvas, the original stays editable in the theme editor. Shopify told app developers on October 1 that app blocks won't be available in the copy for now.

Shopify staff said in the same thread that they plan to support app blocks in Canvas within the next few weeks. Check the Help Center page again before you plan your Black Friday pages around either answer.

Clearing the videos you want to use

Two questions can hold up a video that is otherwise ready.

The first is the soundtrack. TikTok's Commercial Music Library terms do not allow commercial use of its tracks outside TikTok, and your product page is outside TikTok. A brand video built on one of those tracks needs a version with different audio before it goes on your store. The TikTok post has the details.

The second is permission. A creator's video on your product page is commercial use, and TikTok's terms require the creator's permission for that. Get the answer in writing. We listed what to ask a creator for separately.

Ask both questions in October. A video that clears in the middle of November can still go up in an app that keeps videos outside the theme, but it will miss the testing you did on the rest.

What you can change during the freeze

A code freeze covers theme files and new installs. Whether you can still change videos during it depends on where your app stores them. Ask your app whether swapping a video or turning a widget off edits the theme. If it does, plan to leave the widget alone until December.

If it does not, the freeze still leaves you room. You can add a Black Friday video on the Wednesday before and take it down on the Tuesday after Cyber Monday without opening the theme editor.

Reading the numbers after Cyber Monday

Expect your video numbers to keep moving after the weekend. A shopper who watches a video on Black Friday and comes back to buy on December 10 counts as an influenced sale under a 30 day lookback window. A view on November 27 stays inside that window until December 27. If you compare video revenue against a normal month in the first week of December, you are comparing an unfinished month against a finished one.

Keep direct and influenced sales apart when you read the results. Direct means the shopper clicked the product in the video and bought it. Influenced means they watched a video with the product in it and bought later. Influenced is the bigger number and the easier one to overstate. Our attribution post covers the limits of both, including the shopper who watches on a phone and buys on a laptop.

What Maxproof does

The widgets are a Carousel, Stories, or a Pop-up, added as app blocks in the theme editor with no code. That step is the theme edit, so do it before your freeze. It needs a theme that supports app blocks.

After that, the videos and their settings live in the Maxproof admin. The block in your theme only says which widget to show. Adding a video, removing one or changing a widget's look does not touch your theme files.

Each video carries its own product tags. One carousel block in your product template shows each product the videos tagged with it, plus any video you left untagged. A Black Friday video left untagged therefore shows on every product page that has the widget.

Every widget has a Pause button in the app's widget list. A paused widget outputs nothing on your storefront, and Enable brings it back, with no theme edit either way.

We report direct and influenced sales separately, with a 30 day window for influenced sales.

One plan, $10 a month or $100 a year, every feature included. We never bill by views, so Black Friday week costs the same as any other. There is a free 7 day Pro trial through the invite code on the homepage. Redeem the code before you subscribe, not after. A store that already has an active subscription cannot redeem, and the 7 days are lost.

Maxproof is a Shopify app that puts your TikTok and Instagram videos on your storefront as shoppable video. $10 a month, never billed by views.
